Dear Friends of SVARAM Sound Experience!

With delight and gratitude and personal fulfilment, we are happy to share our newsletter with you on the auspicious occasion of the 20th anniversary of SVARAM.

It has certainly been an enriching, often challenging, but rewarding journey from our very beginnings – emerging from our cultural and rural social development work with Mohanam Tamil Heritage and Educational Center and the initial adventure of exploring materials for the vibrational qualities, grooming the acoustic craft skills of our young artisans to the large variety of musical instrument creations that we can offer to the community and the world at large.

Our focus on authentic craft and the emerging innovations always went hand in hand with building community – locally and increasingly so globally; sharing our work, exporting our instruments in more than 33 countries, having grown from the original 7 core members (“Saptasvaras”) to now more than 70 individuals strong team. The ‘living embodiment of an actual human unity’ (see Auroville Charter) has always been the driving tone and motivation in our work and we are proud to have such a versatile team of local artisans and international volunteers, interns, experts joining our forces in the exploration of the harmonizing power of sound.
