SVARAM Sounds – GENESIA | The Album
What would the sound context be like in the act of the creation? The idea of producing a
musical album using the SVARAM instruments, associating them with deep carpets and
digital elements to enrich the environment, gave me the answer.
- In the first step, elements like gong, sonic stones and the sound of an ice lake are
combined together to create a deep and slow journey. The environment is cold and
dispersive for almost the entire track, giving the impression as that of sounds of someone
looking for something. Just at the end the elements mix in tonality and a voice chanting
OM come up and harmonise the context.
- The second step of the journey continues by using gong with different technics to
have a result of a more defined sound. This time it’s followed by a storm drum, the sound
of wind and ocean waves. The idea of mixing these elements together is to give the
sensation of something that is emerging from the primordial ocean, from very deep
pulsation to high frequency breath. In the last few minutes some sounds bring to mind the
voices of sirens that give the impression of something that is calling from the deep.
- The third step brings the listener into a more near world. In this passage the Earth is at
its birth and the elements are the protagonists of the sound environment. From storm to
rain, from jungle to fire, the exchange of sound define a 15-minute walk into the beauty of
life in nature. There is no light yet on Earth but behold, in the last few minutes, a soft pad
enters very delicately, the storm calms down, the fire is about to go out and the first rays
of light touch the surface of the planet.
- The shift from dark to light happens, so in the fourth step the environment is bathed in
light, the birds sing, the water flow and a kind melody that comes from the wind chimes
accompanies the awakening. Under it, a bass drone intones a sort of voice which makes
the whole context warm and enveloping. The recording of the ambient sounds was made
during a morning in Matrimandir, like in a Garden of Eden where all the beings come to
life.
- This fifth step is dedicated to the creation of the human being. The spectrum of sound
is full of harmony, from the lower and middle frequency of the sound bed, to the high
tonality of brass plates and glassphone. A bee’s sound appears and disappears, like
sound that floats around the envelope, guided by the one who is in the process of
creation.
- So here, in the sixth step, the voice of the creature takes to life. A heartbeat sound
starts from the middle of the track, lower and higher pitch of voice tonality extend,
harmonize between each other. A pulsing bass line follows the voices with an arpeggiator
that change in time during the track to define the different rhythms of movement.
- And the last step, the seventh, the environment totally changes. Now the sound is
made by a human, from the creator to the creature, the act of creativity pass through us
and express itself into and out of matter. Ceramic ocarina, wood percussions, ocean
drum and tribal voice keep the listener in a celebration ceremony that never ends.
